Overview

The Emperor Explorer is the Maldives' go-to premium dive liveaboard for travellers from India who want a proper week-long underwater safari without stretching to ultra-luxury pricing. Purpose-built for diving, the 13-cabin steel vessel pairs air-conditioned ensuite cabins with everything a serious safari needs — a separate, fully-equipped dive dhoni that follows the mothership so you giant-stride straight onto the reef, free nitrox for certified divers, a spacious sundeck, an indoor saloon and a camera station. The classic seven-night itinerary loops the Central Atolls — North and South Malé, Ari and Vaavu — hitting world-famous sites such as Maaya Thila, Fish Head, Manta Point at Lankan, Banana Reef, HP Reef and the Alimatha nurse-shark night dive. Expect grey reef and whitetip sharks, turtles, napoleon wrasse and, in season, mantas and whale sharks. Indian dietary requests (vegetarian, Jain, no-pork) are accommodated with advance notice. The boat departs from the Velana International Airport jetty in Malé with our airport transfer included, so you are diving the same afternoon you land. This is the liveaboard we recommend most often to Indian clients wanting the best balance of dive quality, comfort and value.

Frequently Asked Questions

A minimum of PADI Open Water (or equivalent) is recommended, as many Central-Atoll sites involve channels and mild currents. For channel and shark dives, Advanced Open Water with around 30 logged dives is ideal. Non-divers and snorkellers are very welcome — there is excellent snorkelling above most sites, and you can do a Discover Scuba session on board.
Yes. The galley prepares full vegetarian and Jain-friendly meals on request, alongside the international buffet. Let us know at booking and we pass the note to the operator — at least 72 hours' notice is appreciated.
The Central Atolls are largely sheltered and crossings are short, so motion is usually gentle. The vessel is stable and most guests settle within a day. We recommend bringing seasickness tablets and choosing a lower, mid-ship cabin if you are sensitive.
Free nitrox is included for divers who hold an Enriched Air (Nitrox) certification. If you are not certified, you dive on air at no extra cost, or you can complete the nitrox course on board for a small fee.
Diving is year-round. The dry north-east monsoon (December–April) brings calm seas and excellent visibility. May–November is manta and whale-shark plankton season, especially around Baa's Hanifaru Bay and South Ari — ask us about seasonal Baa Atoll departures.
