Indian Restaurants questions

Common questions from Indian travelers about finding Indian food in Maldives.

Yes. Malé and Hulhumalé have the widest choice of dedicated Indian and South-Asian restaurants, thanks to a large resident South-Asian community. Out on the islands, resorts include Indian dishes on their menus and prepare vegetarian and Jain meals on request, while local-island guesthouses readily cook Indian-style meals for their guests. So wherever you stay, you can eat Indian food — just let your resort or guesthouse know your preferences in advance.
Very much so. Vegetarian meals are widely available — in Malé and Hulhumalé restaurants, and at resorts and guesthouses everywhere on request. Jain meals (without onion and garlic) are not always on the menu but most kitchens will prepare them if you give a few hours' notice. For the smoothest experience, mention vegetarian or Jain requirements when you book and again on arrival.
In Malé and Hulhumalé, a casual Indian meal is modest — roughly $5–$15 per person, with cafés and all-day restaurants up to around $25. On resort islands, dining is part of your resort's pricing (often half-board, full-board or all-inclusive), while local-island guesthouses are very affordable and often include meals. Resorts and most establishments price in US Dollars; the local currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), and cards are widely accepted.
That is the norm in the Maldives — resort islands have their own restaurants only. The good news is that almost all resorts include Indian dishes on their menus and will prepare vegetarian and Jain meals on request. Let your resort know your dietary preferences when you book, and we can help match you to a resort that caters well to Indian travellers.
